At the South West Coast Path Association we are fortunate to work with a range of diverse businesses that enjoy the Path as much as we do! One of these businesses is Whirlwind Sports, a sports retailer based in Cornwall who don’t just work near the South West Coast Path, they live in rhythm with it. The team at Whirlwind have written this guest blog to talk about their passion for the Path.
Ingrid Brown is an artist based in Cornwall, who takes much of her inspiration from walks, time in nature, human interaction and the subtle rhythms of daily life at home and elsewhere. Her painted artworks are often created outside, ‘en plein air’; where she is exposed to the natural elements of the ever-changing Cornish weather.
This year, for World Mental Health Day, we reflect on the impact that our Coast Path Connectors programme is having on the groups we walk with and the people we have had join us. Our walks aim to encourage a step away from everyday life, and a step onto the Coast Path and a new environment, that can offer a sense of freedom and space for both mind and body, and boost mental health and wellbeing.
To celebrate National Poetry Day we are delighted to share a coastal collaboration between artist Jane Colquhoun, and poet Amanda Griffin, which is inspired by hikers on the Coast Path in Dorset.
To celebrate World Rivers Day we hear from the Voices of Water Foundation (VoW) founder, Emmeline Hardisty, who is campaigning for better protection of the Rivers and Rias (drowned river valleys) in England and Wales, as she takes on a pilgrimage, a ‘tributary mission’, to raise awareness of VoW and its campaign.
