Walking the Coast Path is an enjoyable experience and if you have a four-legged friend who loves to walk (and what dog doesn’t!) there is nothing more special than taking a hike with your furry companion by your side. With over 630 miles of South West Coast Path to explore we have highlighted six circular walks (one for every 100 miles of the Trail) that are dog friendly because they take in a beach or pub that welcomes them – so plenty of excuses (if you needed them) to get out and explore the Path with your pooch.
As warmer days approach, the coast path is awakening with spring flowers and louder birdsong, enticing walkers to explore new routes. We caught up with our Ambassadog, Rudy, and his owner Laura to find out which route is a spring favourite for them.
The clocks have gone back and the weather is turning colder, but even so, many of us are dreaming of weekend beach-time. It’s the time of year when dog owners and their four-legged friends can access beaches, and with that comes a plethora of winter coastal walkies to be enjoyed. We caught up with our furry volunteer, Rudy the SWCP Ambassadog (@cornishrudy on Instagram), and his owner Laura to find out which routes they love best.
‘Heritage Open Days’ – England’s biggest festival of heritage and culture – starts later this week, running from the 10 – 19th September 2021. Hundreds of heritage sites that aren’t usually open to the public will be opening their doors to us all, many for free. At SWCPA HQ we felt that the festival was especially poignant this year after 18 months of access being restricted to so many of the special spaces and places which make us feel good. In this blog we have picked out ten sites that we as a team would like to visit, incorporating a walk along the National Trail.
When walking along the South West Coast Path, it’s often easy to forget that you are passing through lots of different defined areas, each with their own unique character and history. But now, thanks to a new project in West Dorset you’ll have a beautiful reminder to tell you when you’re passing from parish to parish. We spoke to Countryside Access Improvement Officer for Dorset Council Tara Hansford to find out more.
