Another piece of good news for you this #NationalWalkingMonth, readers: we know that many of you are now using mapping apps to plan and track your adventures on the South West Coast Path (SWCP), which is why we are chuffed to be sharing news of our partnership with Hiiker! Hiiker have just become the first ever ‘Coast Path Friendly’ app, read on to find out what that means (and how SWCPA members can get 20% off the app).
To celebrate our collective new-found freedom and that May is National Walking Month, we’ve teamed up with the lovely people at UltraBritain to bring you a ‘Coast Path Friendly’ virtual challenge which you can walk or run, and that gives back to the National Trail. You can clock up the miles wherever is easiest for you and track your progress on an interactive map of the SWCP over the next three months. That could be on the Trail itself if you are lucky enough to live in the South West, or on footpaths local to you if you are elsewhere in the world. This is a great way to get your Coast Path-fix even if you can’t visit in person, stay motivated to be active and make a difference for the Trail you love. Read on to find out how you can get involved.
Over 12 months, a Mile Maker Business simply donates or fundraises the amount it costs on average to look after one of the 630 Coast Path miles each year – £1,400. That’s less than £120 per month to raise together as a team however you like – it could be through staff fundraising, a percentage of product sales or an end-of-year corporate donation – its your choice!
Fundraiser and professional walk-leader from Cornwall, Stephanie Boon, knows that Trails can’t live on love alone. Here she tells us why she is so keen to give something back to the SWCPA and how you can join her on her 10 mile hikes:
In 2019, on Just Giving alone, there were over 500 fundraising pages created for challenges on the Path, which collectively raised over £700,000 in aid of various causes.
