Originally we were just looking for something a little more civilised than our usual trips on our native Vancouver Island, where thick bush, ice and snow, heavy packs, rotten food and smelly tents are the norm. However, it didn’t take more than a few hours out of our original start point at Port Isaac in 2013 before we knew that we were in this for the duration.
No one likes being led down the garden path, but when it comes to the South West Coast Path, we’re certain that you will! From charming cottage gardens to subtropical paradises, this glorious National Trail leads you to some of the best gardens around.
I completed the South West Coast Path to raise money for Heart Research UK after the sudden death of my husband in 2016. The walk was undertaken in the summer of 2017 with my dog Ruby. We did the whole path starting in Minehead on 12th May and ending in Poole on 19th September. Ruby was then a 9-year-old Cockapoo and she loved every minute of it. We raised over £4,000, which was perhaps an even more outstanding achievement.
Our members are crucial in making an impact on the SWCP, with £10 from every membership fee going directly to the Trail through the Membership Fund.
With its clear, blue skies spring is a fantastic time to explore the South West coastline, and discover local spring walks.
