As part of Saltlines, a project by award-winning author and SWCPA Ambassador, Raynor Winn and The Gigspanner Big Band, we held a special community outreach day in Cornwall with community organisations, volunteers and team members.
This month we introduce emerging artist Kathleen Ashcroft. Kathleen lives in South Devon and runs along the coast path near her house most days. Her keen interest in the built heritage and history on the stretch of coastline near her home played an influential role when it came to her recent Arts degree in 3D Design and Crafts. Lighthouses in particular were the source of inspiration for her stunning geometric jewellery designs made from recycled metals.
Every year, the Marine Conservation Society and citizen scientists, like you, are on the lookout for jellyfish and marine turtles around the UK. From May-September, jellyfish arrive in UK waters in their hundreds, attracting turtles to feed here, too. If you spot jellyfish or turtles on your trip to the coast this summer, the Marine Conservation Society want to hear all about it.
Sculptor Tamsyn Trevorrow’s artwork takes inspiration from her enduring relationship with the sea and coastline of West Cornwall. The fired and glazed pieces reflect the textures and colours of this rugged stretch of coastline home to mining heritage, wild ocean vistas, and awe-inspiring granite rock formations.
Chris Marrow, lead for South West Business Council for maritime affairs and for Africa, shares places to visit on the SWCP that are steeped in history and heritage.
