Handcrafted walking sticks are the perfect item to lead the way on our 50th anniversary commemorative Trailblazer Walk! A walking stick at each start point of the Trailblazer Walk (Minehead and South Haven Point) will travel around The South West Coast Path and act as the relay batons until their reunion in Plymouth on the final day of the Walk.
As part of our 50th-anniversary celebrations, we asked our members to write to us with their experiences of walking the South West Coast Path. This series shares some of the personal stories of members who have supported the charity over the years.
Some people take hundreds of photos. Others might keep a journal. Many may share their experience through social media. For American author Diane Winger, it was the inspiration for writing a short novel and donating back to the Path through royalties from sales of the book.
Steve Pattemore recently completed walking the South West Coast Path for the 4th time – that’s 2,520 miles – the equivalent of walking from Plymouth to Turkey or climbing Mount Everest 16 times! That is extreme dedication to the cause – congratulations Steve!
In 2021, Dani Blackie set the first record for a supported solo run of the entire Trail, clocking the FKT (fastest known time) for a female. The 630 miles took her just 18 days, 14 hours, 46 minutes, and 46 seconds to complete – a huge feat of endurance. Dani shares her experience of the challenging run and reflects back on how it has inspired her next challenge – running the FKT (fastest known time) of the Welsh Coast Trail – 870 miles!
